Back to: Archive · 2006 'What Ya Gonna Do Now?/Bloody Annoying' reviewed From the NME, cover date: 28 October 2006. By Tom Pinnock. The first song the teenage Graham learnt to play on guitar was 'Aunties And Uncles' by The Jam - with this double A-side, the ex-Blur misanthrope and Camden sk8er king seems to have come full circle. But 'What Ya Gonna Do Now?' just acts as an hors d'oeuvre to one of Coxon's catchiest and funniest songs. Compared to 'Love Travels At Illegal Speeds', on which Graham's obvious pop ambition fell short at times, 'Bloody Annoying' is sensational. It's an hilarious account of Coxon's livid rant at a girlfriend against a Buzzcocks-esque punk backing, and suggests our Graham is finally becoming the indie pop star he's always wanted to be. |
