Having reinvented himself as a power-popster with 2004's Happiness In Magazines, Graham Coxon returns with 13 songs about girls, kissing and stuff. And tough love suits him just fine, as this rambunctious set rejects the current vogue for post-punk and goes right back to '77, and the speedy riffs and yapping vocals of the Ramones and Buzzcocks. More mellow fare such as the sombre closer See A Better Day provide moody blue contrast on a set which sees a great guitarist becoming a great songwriter. Rating: 4 out of 5. |
