Back to: Discography · Blur![]() Charmless Man UK release: 29th April 1996 Highest UK chart position: No. 5 UK tracklisting: Also available on: The Great Escape Cover art: Stylorouge Video by: Produced by Rob Small for Oil Factory, directed by Jamie Thraves Single info: Typically wordy mid-'90s character sketch from Damon, released just as The Great Escape was being damned as a white elephant by a pro-Oasis nation. Damon: "Everyone saw Parklife as a celebration and then The Great Escape as being condescending. But it still sold about one-and-a-half million. It isn't bad for a 'disaster' of a record." Alex expects The Great Escape to undergo a further re-evaluation and "become cool again". The "charmless man" of the video is played by Jean Marc Barr, star of "The Big Blue" and "Dancer In The Dark". In the video, the band follow him around until he gets so annoyed that he runs them over with his car. He then runs off, only to find them still playing at the end. |
