My Ark Also available on: Modern Life Is Rubbish Cover art: Stylorouge Video by: Produced by Claire Scott Lister for 4D, directed by Dwight Clarke Single info: After David Balfe had reacted positively to For Tomorrow, he asked the band to "do another one like that." They were furious and Balfe backed down. Chris Morrison intervened, telling Damon "if you're smart you'll do it and show willing rather than stamp your foot." Chemical World, which had been demoed under the sarcastic working title Americana, was the result. SBK, Blur's American record label at the time, loved it and wanted the whole album re-recorded with Butch Vig as producer. Blur, not surprisingly, said no. When the US version of Modern Life Is Rubbish was released, SBK used the demo of Chemical World instead of the Stephen Street version. The reworked version on CD1 is similar to the demo and was produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, the duo behind hits for Madness, Elvis Costello, and many others. |
