The best years of their lives?

From the NME, 9 October 2004, from an article asking musicians about their time at university.

Name: Graham Coxon.

Studied: Fine Art at Goldsmiths College.

Qualifications: "I quit the course to concentrate on Blur."

What do you remember about your time at uni?
"It was just social exploration, I didn't really do much work. I got down there and discovered that everyone else thought they were geniuses, and felt greatly discouraged. So I decided to practice being a social animal, really, and practice my boozing and being free. Which ended up in police cells quite a lot, but there you go, it happens when you're young."

Police cells?
"Well, I blame reggae for that actually. They had a reggae night at Dalston College - reggae and a drink called The Traffic Light which was three pints of Special Brew and Merrydown cider with a vodka and orange in one, a Blue Bols in the next and a Pernod and black in the other, so they turned amber, red and green. You then put a straw in each of them and drink from them all at the same time.

"I had one of those and there was this reggae artist on who made me absolutely far too excited, and I got thrown out. This was in my first week at university, and I got so upset that I threw a barrel through the window and got arrested, spent the night in prison. I was so ashamed by what I did that I tidied the cell up, made the bed and slept on the floor next to the toilet."
